Assistant Professor, Modern Languages & Cultures
The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at Seattle University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Spanish to begin in September 2023. We are a diverse group of faculty who come from all corners of the world and are committed to educating the whole person. Our mission is to equip our students with a wide range of skills for understanding and recognizing social justice issues in their practices both domestically and abroad. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching at all language levels. In addition to teaching Spanish language, the candidate will teach on a variety of topics, including language pedagogy or culture seminars. We seek candidates who will contribute to carry forward the Department, College and University goals of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Responsibilities of this position include teaching, developing a trajectory of productive, quality scholarship, program-building, and engaging in service to the program, school and university.
Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics with a primary focus on Spanish for Specific Purposes and/or Translation and Interpretation Studies. Ideal candidates will have native or near-native fluency in Spanish and good command of English, demonstrated excellence in teaching and ability to periodically travel to lead our annual study abroad program.
