Assistant Professor, Physics

Position Description

The Department of Physics in the College of Science & Engineering at Seattle University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin September 2024. The Department of Physics offers the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Arts degrees, with no graduate programs. Candidates from all areas of physics will be considered; however, preference will be given to applicants with interdisciplinary research interests and publications, especially in areas interfacing with the biological sciences.

 

 Responsibilities include teaching a broad range of undergraduate courses, maintaining an active scholarly agenda, and service to the department, school, and university.  

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in physics or a related field is required and both previous teaching experience and postdoctoral research experience are strongly preferred. The ability and interest to teach a wide range of undergraduate physics courses is essential and the capability of teaching interdisciplinary courses in other departments is preferred. Applicants must have a commitment to excellence in teaching and a willingness to mentor undergraduate students in their research. Opportunities for collaborative research exist both on campus and at the nearby University of Washington.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $80,000 - $88,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.
