Position Description
Seattle University has an opportunity for a licensed
Counselor or Psychologist to join our community. Under the direction of the
Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), the Counselor or
Psychologist provides clinical services, consultation, educational workshops,
and outreach programming designed to foster the psychological well-being of the
University’s student population. In addition to providing these general
services, Counselors or Psychologists may be assigned to provide specialized services,
programming, and training related to crisis counseling or serving
underrepresented populations such as BIPOC students, LGBTQIA+ students,
international students, and/or undocumented students, depending on experience
and expertise, Clinical services and other responsibilities are primarily
provided in person, with an opportunity for limited remote work after an
initial review period.
Clinical Services, Consultation, & Training/Outreach:
- Provide initial intake evaluations.
- Conduct short-term individual and group psychotherapy.
- Facilitate outreach programming and educational workshops.
- Assist with referrals for mental health services in the local community.
- Provide consultation and training for faculty, administrators, residence life professionals, and other student services personnel regarding psychological development and behavioral health, focusing on student wellness.
- Consult with family, parents, and others about mental health resources available at the university.
- On rare occasions, provide crisis counseling after-hours or on weekends in response to major emergencies.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Participate in university-wide and/or Student & Campus Life committees as assigned. Attend Student & Campus Life in services and events.
- Serve as liaison between CAPS and other departments on campus as assigned.
- Maintain clinical case files in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Fully licensed in Washington State to practice independently
as a psychologist, social worker, or mental health counselor. Candidates
with Washington State associate-level licenses may be considered on a
contingent basis if they can become fully licensed within 6 months of
hire.
- Demonstrated skills in assessment, diagnosis, and
intervention/crisis intervention. Experience conducting short-term individual
and group therapy.
- Ability to consult and collaborate with University personnel
and off-campus mental health and psychiatric services.
- Passion for and experience working with students and dedication
to partnering with relevant campus advocates and partners. Experience with
outreach programming and the ability to interact with a diverse
population.
- Understanding of and ability to work within a student
development model. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Candidates hired as Psychologists are
required to have an earned doctorate and at least two years of post-degree
experience providing clinical services in a higher education or similar
setting. Experience with crisis counseling and working with BIPOC students,
LGBTQIA+ students, international students, and/or undocumented students
strongly preferred.

Compensation at a Glance:
Salary Range: $73,500 - $80,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents
its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the
time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be
determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected
candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity
considerations, and available market information, and not based on a
candidate’s gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible*
This
position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of
an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible
role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format
following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic
review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the
university’s discretion.
