Position Description
Overview: The Sundborg Center for Community Engagement
(CCE) at Seattle University (SU) has an exciting opportunity to make an impact
in the lives of children, youth, young people, and families in Seattle while
offering transformative learning opportunities for university students.
We are
seeking a skilled and dedicated professional to fill the role of Associate
Director of the Seattle University Youth Initiative with a particular focus on
housing and education partnerships. This is an integral role that supports the Seattle University Youth Initiative (SUYI) and its education partnerships in the
Seattle neighborhoods with which SU shares space. More specifically, this role
is part of a CCE team that bridges campus and community, drawing upon the
wealth of campus and community resources in ways that foster healthy, wholistic
support as children, youth, and families engage with their educational journey.
The SUYI
Associate Director for Education and Housing Partnerships will particularly
focus on housing and education partnerships including deepening the partnership
between the Sundborg Center for Community Engagement and the Yesler Terrace
community by guiding the work of the Yesler Legacy Project, a new, innovative
and community-centered approach to meeting educational needs of young people
living in the Yesler Terrace community. The Associate Director will also maintain and deepen relationships with
CCE’s education partnerships with Seattle Public Schools, and in the wider SUYI
area. This role will
also support Seattle University students as they support scholars in out of
school time and summer learning with specific affordable housing communities in
the SUYI neighborhood. Finally, this
role will supervise one full-time staff member that works to connect campus and
community through education, family and housing partnerships.

This position
reports to the Senior Director of the Seattle University Youth Initiative at
the Sundborg Center for Community Engagement.
This position
works onsite at both Yesler Terrace and at the Sundborg Center for Community
Engagement with the option of working one remote day per week.

programs and partnerships that align with Seattle University’s values and

Essential Job Functions:
Yesler Legacy Project (70%)
- Lead the formation of the Yesler Community Services Committee.
- Identify members to serve on the YCSC.
- Lead the development of YCSC by-laws.
- Convene, staff, and support the Yesler Community Services Committee.
- Maintain consistent, documented communication with the YCSC.
- Convene the YCSC on at least a quarterly basis to discuss service delivery and receive community feedback.
- Support efforts to cultivate youth voice and youth leadership to inform the YCSC and the YLP.
- Project and program evaluation.
- In partnership with service providers and the YCSC, develop specific measurements, key indicators, and outcomes for programs engaging in work related to the Yesler Legacy Project.
- In partnership with the CCE Data Systems Manager and Faculty Fellows support evaluation, and develop tools and systems to regularly assess YLP programming.
- Project reporting.
- Lead creation of reports and project updates for Seattle University, Seattle Housing Authority, and the Seattle Foundation as needed.
- Lead the creation of an annual report on the work of the Yesler Legacy Project.
- Develop and maintain relationships with partners providing services that support the educational growth of children, youth, and young people in the Yesler Terrace community.
- Maintain consistent and documented communication with partners.
- Support partners in ensuring they remain on track with working toward agreed upon outcomes.
- Support Request for Proposal process for potential educational partners to provide services in the Yesler Terrace community.
- Serve as the community liaison between the Yesler Terrace community and Seattle Housing Authority (SHA) staff at Yesler Terrace and the Sundborg Center for Community Engagement.
Supervision (20%)
- Supervise and provide support for the Family Engagement Manager.
- Supervise and provide ongoing support for ten to twenty Seattle University students working with partners who provide out of school time social, emotional, and academic support for scholars in our Seattle University Youth Initiative area.
- Recruit and hire Seattle University students to work with scholars in out of school time and summer programming provided by CCE community and school partners.
- Partner with the Associate Director of Campus Engagement to ensure students working with scholars are connected to and receiving CCE required trainings.
- Develop a culturally responsive, anti-racist, justice-centered program that supports Seattle University students working with scholars in out of school time and summer programming.
- Maintain ongoing communication with partners providing out of school time and summer programming.
Sundborg Center for Community Engagement
Teaming (10% )
- Actively participate in Sundborg Center for Community Engagement staff meetings, team meetings, planning sessions and retreats.
- Join cross-Center work groups and committees to complete specific projects and goals.
- Respond to CCE colleagues’ e-mails and calendar invites in a timely manner.
- Attend CCE, campus and community events.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in public administration, Urban Planning, Social Work, Human Services, or related field or a minimum of five years of directly relevant and demonstrated experience.
- Strong connections within the central Seattle community, particularly the Yesler Terrace neighborhood and community with strong knowledge of the multiple ways in which diversity manifests within the community.
- Ability to develop and oversee policies and procedures to support program and organizational growth and transition.
- Desire to pursue social justice and actively commit to anti-racist practice, through sustained partnerships that connect the campus with the wider community.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues related to racism and other systems of oppression as well knowledge and understanding of the impacts of said systems
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with partners who include or represent families of color, immigrant and refugee families, and members of other historically marginalized communities.
- Ability to hold and respond to conflict in a relational and healing-centered way.
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams and on collaborative efforts.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning.
- Ability to animate Seattle University’s Jesuit Catholic mission, vision, and values.
- Availability to work in person in an open office space with the option to utilize the university flexible work policy to work virtually as mutually agreed upon with supervisor.
- Effective and versatile written and verbal communication skills (e.g., email, phone, and in-person).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a field related to the work of this role.
- At least four years of demonstrated community building and/or community organizing within predominantly marginalized communities/communities whose residents have lived marginalized experiences.
- Demonstrated experience supervising and supporting professional staff using human-centered approaches.
- Demonstrated experience supervising and supporting college students using human-centered approaches.
- Experience overseeing complex and detailed programs.
- Experience guiding or leading teams or groups during periods of organizational growth or change.
- Demonstrated experience navigating nuanced systems and structures of multiple institutions while centering the needs of the community being served.
- Sense of humor.

Compensation at a Glance:
Salary Range: $74,000 - $77,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents
its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the
time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be
determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected
candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity
considerations, and available market information, and not based on a
candidate’s gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible*
This
position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of
an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible
role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format
