Associate/Full Professor and Department Chair, Department of Counseling
Position Description
Seattle University, a nationally ranked Jesuit-Catholic institution located near downtown Seattle, seeks a highly collaborative, innovative tenured professor and administrator to lead the Department of Counseling (COUN) as the Department Chair in the College of Education. The Counseling Department in the College of Education has four CACREP-aligned programs: Clinical Mental Health Counseling On-ground (CMHC), Online Clinical Mental Health Counseling (OCMHC), School Counseling On-ground (SC), and Online School Counseling (OSC). Each program focuses on preparing emerging counselors to be social change agents and advocates for diversity, anti-racism, equity, and inclusion (DEI). The Chair of this newly formed unit will shepherd the department through a time of innovation, organizational change, and rapid growth of new degree programs including fully online, blended learning, and traditional in-person degree programs. Option for remote work.
The Counseling Department Chair will provide important leadership, as faculty enter the final stages of CACREP accreditation for new online programs, in line with current fully accredited on ground Counseling programs. In addition, this Chair will also provide support to faculty working to enhance and reimagine existing programs and expand newly developed programs. In accordance with CACREP standards, the Department Chair will have responsibility for leading and ensuring coordination of departmental activities, including responding to inquiries regarding the Counseling Department as a whole, providing input and making recommendations related to departmental budgets and expenditures, and providing year-round leadership to support the effective operation of the department and its programs.
At the College level, the Chair of the Counseling Department will provide leadership that increases the College focus and integration of global and international learning experiences, as well as an increased focus on faculty research and scholarship. The College seeks a Counseling Department Chair who is equity-minded and can think and lead with an interdisciplinary lens. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, strategic and visionary leader and an accomplished scholar. Additionally, the new Counseling Chair will be an innovative instructional leader, skilled communicator, teacher and facilitator, with evidence of strategic leadership and a demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. In addition, we seek a leader who is committed to fostering the development of both tenure-track and term faculty while building community and belonging within the department and College. The Counseling Department Chair will balance a broad range of administrative and leadership responsibilities, under the direction of the Dean of the College. Overseeing the implementation of a strategic vision for the Department, the Chair is also responsible for faculty hiring and evaluation process, curricular planning and scheduling, departmental operations and budgeting, support for teaching, research, and service activities, attracting and retaining excellent students from a diverse range of backgrounds, and partnerships within and across the College, University, and Region. The Counseling Chair is responsible for a growing faculty including tenured and tenure track faculty, clinical/teaching faculty, adjunct faculty, and full-time staff. Across diverse types of faculty, the Counseling Chair will demonstrate the ability to foster strong community and collaboration within the Department.
Base salary for the role is currently anticipated to range from $80,000-$92,000 commensurate with experience, skills, and the qualifications required for this role. An additional administrative salary will be provided.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Degree requirements; candidates must meet one of the following qualifications in line with our CACREP accreditation standards:
§ Earned doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program; or
§ Related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013; or
§ Employment as a full-time doctoral-level faculty member in a CORE-accredited master’s program prior to July 1, 2017; or
§ Graduate of a rehabilitation doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018.
· Sustained memberships in professional counseling organizations, relevant professional counseling credentials, and professional engagement in professional development, professional service and advocacy, ongoing counseling practice, and/or research and scholarly activity in counseling
· Experienced leader with a proven track record in higher education
· Experience with the CACREP accreditation process and maintenance of CACREP standards
· Evidence of mentoring, cultivating and developing faculty and staff leadership
· Evidence of demonstrated commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging
· Evidence of experience with strategic planning and implementation with impact and positive results
· Ability to articulate and execute a strategic vision that captures multiple distinct programs within one academic department
· Experience with large academic departments/divisions with 30+ faculty members
· Ability to be inclusive with diverse faculty, students and with multiple delivery methods
· Experience with multiple specializations, specifically both clinical mental health counseling and school counseling.
· Committed to learning; evidence of lifelong learning and ability to foster this type of culture with department faculty
· Ability to foster growth of departmental programs and lead growth based on relevant professional experience
· Ability to liaison with university-wide divisions including upper-level administration and experience and success with external facing leadership roles
· Ability to cultivate relationships across state, region, and at the nation
· Leadership that employs an interdisciplinary lens (strategic planning, solving problems etc.)
· Experience with multiple modalities of course/program delivery including online and face-to-face instruction in graduate programs
· Experience teaching and leading at the graduate level
· Experience supporting international and undocumented students

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Dual certification candidate with one certification in school counseling
· Experience and leadership in global education
· Experience and success with grant writing and awards
· Cutting edge scholar and practitioner
· Understanding of organizations and relevant budget experience in higher education

Compensation at a Glance:
Salary Range: $80,000 - $92,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents
its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the
time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be
determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected
candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity
considerations, and available market information, and not based on a
