Position Description
Reporting
to the Assistant Director for Grounds and Waste Management, and under the priorities
established by the Fields lead, this position provides Athletic field and
landscape maintenance services as an integral part of the operations and
maintenance of the university. Foster teamwork in all aspects of the work and
coordinate and mentor student employees in all aspects of fields and landscape
maintenance. Ensures
adherence to relevant regulations, guidelines and standards for NCAA Division I
athletic fields. Acts as liaison between
Athletics, University Recreation, CES and Facilities.
Field Operations and Maintenance (50%)
- Maintain a high-level playing surface for athletic field turf and softball infield and other assigned areas including dugouts, bullpens and batting cages, track surface, outdoor tennis courts, consistent with NCAA Division 1 standards.
- Assist Game Operations staff in game-day preparation, and provide game day coverage; including field set-up, maintenance, and post-game field clean up from athletic and special events for softball and soccer.
- Perform daily and weekly tasks requested by the Athletics department in preparation for practices and game day events both during the workweek as well as on the weekend.
- Monitor use, schedule, perform and log maintenance, regularly inspect and request testing of synthetic turf in accordance with manufacture specifications and safety requirements.
- Report warranty and defect issues and facilitate repairs as necessary.
- Collaborate with Athletics and University Recreation and perform field painting for Intercollegiate and Club/Intermural sports.
- Collaborate with Athletics, University Recreation and CES to ensure proper use of fields for non-athletic events.
- Assist in planning and development of additional athletic fields maintenance and renovation projects.
- Collaborate with Irrigation Specialist to maintain irrigation system including establishing watering schedules; adjusts according to conditions.
- Maintain a working knowledge relevant NCAA rules and regulations.
Landscape Operations and Maintenance (35%)
- Perform organic tree and shrub and turf care, including pruning/trimming in accordance with the International Society of Arboriculture standard.
- Perform landscape maintenance and at times renovation, organic garden care and multi-functional landscape design to include habitat proliferation, crime prevention, tree care to ISA standard and may include pneumatic lift and harness training, organic disease and insect control and organic weed control.
- Maintain hardscapes, support trash collection and litter control.
- Participate in IPM program.
- Operate Grounds related equipment including forklift, backhoe frontend loader, brush chipper, pneumatic lift, riding mower, dump truck, backpack blower, line trimmer, edger, chainsaw, tools, and machinery.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Organize assigned work, conducted autonomously or as part of a team, train and work with students as integral to the team.
- Properly and safely use appropriate tools used in performing required tasks.Account for and maintain university-owned tools and equipment; repair and maintain tools as needed.
- Follow established safety rules and regulations; attend safety training as required.
- Work in a safe, clean and respectful manner while performing work on campus.
- Maintain a safe and clean shop space.
Scheduling (5%)
- Schedule work considering customer requests,
space available and potential disruption to adjacent academic, work and living
areas.
Communication / Customer service (5%)
- Communicate with the Lead, the requester, and other staff as needed
regarding development and status of work and work requests.
Administrative (5%)
- Open, update, track and complete all work
orders assigned. Submit web time entries
on time. Attend departmental meetings as
required.
Marginal
Functions
- Assist with the assignment and coordination of student workers.
- Supervise student and/or seasonal workers
- Support snow removal, disaster response coordination, ADA regulations, and irrigation/drainage maintenance.
Qualifications
- One
to two years’ experience in advanced knowledge of modern commercial grounds
care practices working in landscape and athletic field maintenance or an
equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully
perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- The ability
to lift or otherwise move up to fifty (50) pounds, to operate commercial
grounds and athletic field equipment and to work outdoors in a variety of
climates is required.
- Must have a current driver’s License.
Preferred
Qualifications:
- One year
degree in horticultural or field turf science or similar certificated studies.

Compensation at a Glance:
Salary Range: $21.76 - $24.97
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents
its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the
time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be
determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected
candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity
considerations, and available market information, and not based on a
