Position Description
Seattle University seeks a highly motivated financial professional with proven experience and a track record of success to serve as the Assistant Athletics Director for Finance & Business Operations. Reporting directly to the Deputy Athletics Director, this key role leads financial operations for one of the University’s most dynamic and exciting areas. The position provides the opportunity to work closely with the Athletics leadership team, including the Vice President for Athletics, while also collaborating with University finance leaders such as the Controller, Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, and CFO.
Responsibilities
Budget Management
- Assist with the financial
administration and operations of the Athletics department, following Generally
Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), university policies, and NCAA
requirements. Supervise the administration of spending and expenditures of administrative
and sport program units.
- Help prepare annual budgets and
track revenue projections in collaboration with athletics and campus financial
staff. Create monthly and annual financial reporting, support internal and
external audits, and contribute to the development and analysis of
departmental, campus, and external reports.
- Conduct basic financial analysis,
including spending trends and budget forecasts to support departmental
financial plans.
Financial Reporting and Compliance
- Assist in preparing annual
financial statements such as annual audit, EADA, and NCAA reports.
- Prepare, organize, and analyze
financial statements; month- and year-end journal entries; accounts; ledgers;
and reports using automated financial systems.
- Follow established fiscal
policies and procedures to ensure operational efficiency.
Financial Planning Support
- Provide budgetary recommendations
based on established guidelines. Create and monitor modeling for forecasting
and budget analysis.
- Monitor revenue streams (e.g.,
ticket sales, corporate partnerships, licensing, camps).
- Track NCAA dashboard indicators
for reporting purposes.
Collaboration and Communication
- Serve as a liaison between
Athletics and other financial units.
- Coordinate with campus units such
as Accounts Payable and the University Budget Office.
- Participate in Athletics-related
committees as assigned.
Procurement and Vendor Management
- Process vendor agreements and
related contracts for travel, apparel, and equipment.
- Ensure adherence to university
procurement policies for routine purchases.
Post-Season and Student-Athlete Support
- Assist with managing postseason
budget tracking.
- Support compliance and financial
aid staff with Athletics Financial Aid administration.
- Help coordinate student-athlete
meals during designated periods.
Risk Management and Financial Controls
- Maintain established accounting
systems and processes.
- Update databases for tracking
budgets and gift accounts.
- Prepare regular financial reports
for department leadership.
Facility and Equipment Oversight
- Track facility and equipment
leases and maintenance schedules.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business,
finance, accounting, or a related field.
- Two years of experience in budget
management or financial analysis.
- Strong analytical and
problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a
team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
and financial tools.

confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in collegiate
athletics financial management.
- Good communication skills, with
ability to explain financial information clearly.

Compensation at a Glance
Salary Range: $67,000 - $75,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents
its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the
time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be
determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected
candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity
considerations, and available market information, and not based on a
candidate’s gender or any other protected status.
