Summary
Seattle University has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and skilled
educator to serve as Athletic Performance Coach. This position provides
leadership, instruction and program support in the area of physical and mental
performance training specific to the strength, speed and conditioning
development of 290 student-athletes. The university
sponsors 17 NCAA Division I sports.
Reporting to the Director of Sports Medicine and
Performance, the following are the key responsibilities:
- Cultivate a welcoming and competitively minded performance
teaching and training environment to support student athlete holistic
health, safety and success.
- Inspire competitive excellence by encouraging and developing
emotional and mental resilience.
- Design and lead year-round, periodized strength and
conditioning programs and activities for assigned sports.
- Effectively instruct and motivate participants on
safe and proper execution of lifts, drills, exercises, and/or movement patterns
to enhance athletic skill, ability and capacity.
- Plan and manage team and individual
testing and analyze testing results and biometric markers for
practical application.
- Maintain continuous communication with assigned head coaches to ensure
that the training program outcomes support team objectives and
priorities
- Provide head coaches with analysis of biometric data and
performance indicators to improve individual performance and team outcomes and
for modifications to training, practice and competition plans.
- Actively collaborate with sports medicine personnel to provide holistic
care, including injury prevention and exercise modification strategies. Play
active role in the reconditioning of student-athletes returning to activity
from injury.
- Supervise and monitor the Wright Family Performance Center for participant
safety, as well as provide structure and guidance to graduate assistants
and/or student interns.
- Assist and guide assigned teams with
fueling station utilization to enhance recovery and student
health.
Perform regular cleaning and basic maintenance of performance related
training and testing equipment.
Actively maintain professional knowledge base and credentials by
researching industry scientific and clinical advancements and
innovations.
Marginal Job Functions
Assist with sports nutrition education and meal planning. Perform other related
duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required. Two years related experience at the NCAA
Division I level or an equivalent combination of education and experience
sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as
those listed above.
- Current National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified
Strength & Conditioning Specialist Certification (CSCS) or Collegiate
Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) Strength &
Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) certification required at time of hire. Current adult CPR/First Aid/AED certification is also required at time of hire.

- All positions at Seattle University require a criminal history background
check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or advanced degree with three to five years related experience at the
NCAA Division I level.
- Advanced knowledge of multi-directional speed and
agility modalities.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing high level basketball performance training
programs.

Compensation at a Glance
Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents
its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the
time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be
determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected
candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity
considerations, and available market information, and not based on a
candidate’s gender or any other protected status.
