Assistant Director of Equipment & Event Management

Position Description

 Seattle University is an independent, Catholic, Jesuit institution adjacent to downtown Seattle, and is seeking a dynamic and proven athletics department professional to serve as its Assistant Director of Equipment & Event Management.

Located on Capitol Hill, one of Seattle’s most vibrant neighborhoods, Seattle University is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States and currently enrolls more than 7,400 graduate and undergraduate students within nine schools and colleges. The university’s athletic program fields 20 Division I intercollegiate teams (9 men’s and 11 women’s) and is comprised of more than 340 student athletes.  The Redhawks, Seattle University’s athletic teams, compete in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in all sports and have an excellent track record of
achievement both on the field and court and in the classroom.   In the six years with the WAC, the Redhawk teams have a combined 45 WAC conference titles, including both team and individual championships.
POSITION OBJECTIVE 
Manage all aspects of athletics equipment and apparel including ordering, vendor management, maintenance, inventory, and care for Seattle University’s 20-sport intercollegiate athletics programs. Oversee all Redhawk Center access and maintenance. Responsibilities will also include supervision of student staff and game day event staff. 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.       Responsible for identifying, determining, and approving necessary equipment and apparel purchases
required for competition and practice for all 20-varsity sport programs. Manage the issuance, maintenance and upkeep as well as monitor repairs for all equipment. Directly manage relationship with equipment and apparel vendors, including but not limited to contract management. (25%)
2.       Manage the daily maintenance and general operations of the Redhawk Center. Develop and
implement policies and procedures for the facilities operation, including forecasting planned maintenance for equipment. Manage the daily operations of the equipment rooms. Ensure each area operates in a clean, efficient and effective manner. (20%)
3.       Responsible for compliance of all NCAA and Title IX rules and regulations regarding
equipment and apparel use. Develop, implement and execute an inventory control system to ensure accurate recording of all purchases, repairs, maintenance and disposal of athletic equipment and apparel to follow NCAA rules. Inventory athletic apparel and distribute to student-athletes. Responsible for collection
of all apparel annually, generating a final inventory for coaches and reporting lost items. (15%) 
4.       Assist Assistant Athletic Director for Events and Facilities with coverage on game days. Manage set up for athletic competitions and practices. (15%)
5.       Responsible for developing and managing the process for laundry services for athletic teams
as needed. Manage the distribution of clean laundry to student-athletes, staff and coaches. Ensure team equipment and apparel is laundered to the correct specifications and health standards on a daily basis. (10%)
6.       Develop and manage budget for the equipment and apparel for all athletic teams, staff and facilities. (10%)
7.       Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Events and Facilities. (5%)

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 1 year of experience in athletic equipment management and operations required.

Education/Licensing: High school education required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Current Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) certification, or successful acquisition of this certification within 12 months from date of hire.

Excellent organizational and planning skills; ability to prioritize and complete multiple assignments
throughout the year. Attention to detail.

Effective management skills; ability to lead, work with, elicit cooperation from and read communication
styles of team members and staff.

Ability to work effectively independently with limited supervision, and collaboratively within a team.

Ability to learn and apply new ideas, processes, policies, functions, etc. Must be highly motivated and a
self-starter.

Ability to problem-solve effectively, and demonstrate good judgment and logical decision-making.

Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timeline. Must be flexible in order to respond to
project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently. Must be able to adapt to varying workloads and respond appropriately to stressful situations.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Periodically the employee will have to remain on his/her feet for entire shift. Must have
the ability to lift 50 lbs. for a minimum distance of 15 ft.; the ability to lift overhead; and the ability to work at or below waist level (kneeling/ lying). The employee will need to perform the following activities: balance, kneel, bend/stoop, push/pull, climb ladders, reach, climb stairs, reach above shoulder, crouch, squat, and repetitive motion using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. Employee must respond to text messaging, phone calls, and/or changes of additional work hours, whenever necessary for special events (during evenings and weekends). This position may require weekend/evening hours.
